Totalitarianism both frightens and fascinates me. How does a big state machine corrupt its people into betraying each other? The Fingers of the Fist is a short story about four people living together in an apartment. The mother, father and daughter live their lives quite happily until suddenly the father is arrested. But who told on him? Was it the party fanatic neighboor? Was is the daughter talking to him? No place is safe, not even home. Nobody can be trusted, not even your own blood. One person in jail, but everybody suffers.
